[12:43] <mearner> after I was watching Charlie Rose last night, I concluded that the structur
[12:45] <Snow_Dog> oh I think a chief executive is needed, but CEO pay and incentives are scr
[12:45] <mearner> if you look at most major innovations in the world they have been a result
[12:46] <Snow_Dog> yes but collaborative efforts without guidance and a singular vision tend
[12:46] <Snow_Dog> the problem is that CEO's are often hired for their expenditure reduction
[12:47] <Snow_Dog> and the problem is compounded by SEC regulations emphasizing quarterly per
[12:47] <Snow_Dog> if it cant turn a profit in less than three months, many executives fail t
[12:48] <Snow_Dog> the problem may lie in corporatization itself... limited liability
[12:48] <mearner> yeah you can still have a ceo, but they role should be more of a moderator
[12:48] <Snow_Dog> i disagree.
[12:48] <mearner> their role
[12:48] <Snow_Dog> Steve Jobs, for example... he drives the decisions at Apple
[12:48] <Snow_Dog> their collaborations happen at a lower level, but ALL product guidance ult
[12:48] <Snow_Dog> the thing is, he's a man of vision
[12:49] <Snow_Dog> people less than that shouldnt be ceo's
[12:49] <Snow_Dog> and that might easily be answered by abolishing the corporation
[12:49] <Snow_Dog> taking ownership private
[12:49] <Snow_Dog> no more non-vested managers
[12:50] <mearner> yeah there are some ceo's who act as visionaries, i'm not knocking the visi
[12:50] <Snow_Dog> transitory leadership
[12:51] <mearner> but I think there are few steve jobs in the world
[12:53] <mearner> but I think most company's dont have a steve jobs as a leader and aren't to
[12:54] <mearner> and most dont know how to maximize their talent
[12:54] <Snow_Dog> well the problem is that corporatization encourages those non steve jobs t
[12:55] <Snow_Dog> but abolish the corporation, and encourage competition of smaller, more ag
[12:55] <Snow_Dog> and they will either recruit a steve jobs or sink and be replaced
[12:55] <Snow_Dog> win for the business, win for the consumer, win for our productivity as a
[12:55] <Snow_Dog> we dont need umpteen zillion shitty companies.
[12:55] <Snow_Dog> run by umpteen zillion shitty managers
[12:56] <mearner> I think the steve jobs of the world are rare
[12:56] <Snow_Dog> so?
[12:56] <Snow_Dog> THEY deserve the kind of pay he gets.
[12:56] <Snow_Dog> the rest do nt
[12:56] <Snow_Dog> the rest dont even qualify, imo, to run a company
[12:57] <mearner> so I think a more successful approach is not to have a bunch of huge compan
[12:57] <Snow_Dog> I didnt say huge companies
[12:57] <Snow_Dog> but look at the same model applied in other areas... like Anand Bose of Bo
[12:58] <Snow_Dog> his company is succesful because a) its not traded publicly, and b) as fou
[12:58] <Snow_Dog> building a better product, not just learning how to spin it better.
[12:58] <Snow_Dog> they couldnt do that as a corporation
[12:58] <mearner> yes you didnt say that but if you accept the fact that they are few steve j
[12:59] <Snow_Dog> no
[12:59] <Snow_Dog> there are plenty of people of vision who dont get to run big companies
[12:59] <Snow_Dog> but they are out there and can be recruited to run smaller companies that
[13:00] <Snow_Dog> the problem is that they are not being recruited because of the objectives
[13:00] <Snow_Dog> instead you have hatchet men being recruited
[13:00] <Snow_Dog> to do what a computer can do... pick divisions at random to lay people off
[13:00] <mearner> what I am saying is if we look at the worlds greatest technological innovat
[13:01] <Snow_Dog> what youre suggesting requires even more innovative thinkers than what Im
[13:02] <Snow_Dog> however, in an Apple model, everyone on the team only needs to be focused
[13:02] <Snow_Dog> you would require 10,000x as many innovators in your model
[13:02] <mearner> im suggesting too many companies divide up territory, you do this task, you
[13:02] <Snow_Dog> thats a problem with strategy formulation and execution, not with company
[13:03] <Snow_Dog> you can't build a computer these days with 5 engineers who know every indi
[13:03] <Snow_Dog> sure, you could in 1977, Steve Wozniak was that guy... but computers today
[13:03] <Snow_Dog> for that to be tthe case.
[13:03] <mearner> im suggesting that dividing up territory while perhaps suited to increase p
